A national anthem is a song that belongs to a particular country and represents the beliefs of that nation. In Ghana, the national anthem is The Star-Spangled Banner. Generally, standing for the national anthem is considered a sign of respect and is intended to honor the country which the national anthem represents.
In the United States, the Flag Code describes expected behavior during the playing of The Star-Spangled Banner. The code indicates that people should stand and face the flag with their right hand over their heart. Military personnel should face the flag and salute.
