The coach of Madagascar, Romuald Rakotondrabe, claims that his team was unable to stop Majeed Ashimeru when he came on for the Black Stars during Friday's 2026 World Cup qualifying match.
After being introduced to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the second half to energise Ghana's play, the Anderlecht midfielder proved to be the difference.
The team lacked a ball progressor prior to Ashimeru entering the game, which resulted in a highly haphazard Black Stars performance.
His enthusiasm and lunging efforts eventually paid off, as Inaki Williams gave Ghana the lead in the 95th minute to open their Group I matches victorious.
The 26-year-old's contribution to the game was highly praised by the Madagascar coach in his post-match remarks.
"We hit the bar, and we had the better opportunities. But that's football for you; we had our chance, they took it. I accept accountability since I am the coach. "What happened, I'm to blame," Romuald Rakotondrabe declared.
In the first forty-five minutes, we managed to put Ghana to the test. Everything changed when he introduced Majeed Ashimeru in the second half. He brought energy, so I urged the boys to stop him. We made numerous attempts, but nothing worked.
To wrap up the November international break, the Black Stars will play Comoros in their second qualifier on Tuesday in Moroni.
