NPP Primaries: K.T. Hammond and 14 others challenge Sammy Binfoh's eligibility
K.T. Hammond, the member of parliament for Adansi Asokwa, and fourteen other NPP leaders in the constituency have filed a petition to disqualify Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, a candidate in the parliamentary primary.
Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, the deputy managing director of the Ghana Publishing Company, is accused in the petition that JoyNews was able to view of not being a member of the NPP and making less of an effort to advance the constituency.
In addition, he is charged with stealing pickup trucks that were given to the district following his defeat by K.T. Hammond, the sitting member, in the 2018 parliamentary primary.
According to the appeal, Mr. Binfoh is ineligible to run for the NPP's Adansi Asokwa seat, as stipulated by Articles 12(4) and (7) of the Party's Constitution.
In an interview with JoyNews, Mr Sammy Binfoh Darkwa, who is running to unseat the incumbent, expressed confidence in his chances of winning.
"I am looking forward to unseating the incumbent MP who was fortunate during the last primaries. I am not worried or perturbed about the situation. We are looking forward to victory," he said.
The Adansi Asokwa constituency is expected to see a fierce contest as three other candidates line up to challenge K.T. Hammond.
