With her most recent album, This Is Me, Jennifer Lopez has already shown her candor and vulnerability... Now, and the musical film experience that goes with it, This Is Me... Now: A Love Story. In a new documentary that goes into detail into the creation of those two projects, Lopez is, nevertheless, opening up even more to fans.
Lopez gave fans an emotional, impactful first look at the Jason Bergh-directed documentary showcasing her creative process and her journey to discover happiness and self-acceptance on Thursday by sharing an exclusive glimpse at the teaser for The Greatest Love Story Never Told in her newsletter.
Throughout the voice-over, Lopez describes how her four marriages shaped the storyline of her film project and the songs on her most recent album.
Lopez says, "I used to be terrified to be alone," over a montage of video showing her practicing and organizing choreography. "I didn't know what I was supposed to do by myself."
She talked about how the public reacted to her several failed relationships as well as how she made an effort to hide her feelings from view.
"I'm sure people watching from the outside were like, 'What is this girl's problem?'" Lopez revealed. I sent to the world that, 'Oh, this didn't work out, but it's okay, I'm fine, and they're fine.' And that was all a bunch of bulls**t."
In addition to describing the creative process for her most recent endeavor, the documentary also highlights the stress and exhilarating thrill of taking a chance on self-financing an original cinematic experience that depends on public interest and the success of her new music.
"I'm here. This is me. "This moment is about accepting the reality of who you truly are," Lopez says as she and husband Ben Affleck have a quick embrace.
When the singer confesses that she is afraid, the other dancer informs her that she doesn't appear worried. This is one of the most honest moments in the trailer.
Famously dating in the early 2000s, Lopez and Affleck got engaged, called it quits, and eventually broke up in 2004. In 2021, they resumed their romantic relationship, and a year later, they were married.
Lopez talked with ET's Kevin Frazier about the heartfelt narrative that plays out in the innovative cinematic production while strolling the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of This Is Me... Now: A Love Story on Tuesday.
The project Lopez worked on offers a fictionalized story of her rekindled passion. "The album that I made was very honest, about kind of wanting to capture this moment in time of reconnecting with a love," Lopez said. "Although it appears to be a fairytale, it wasn't.
I so genuinely wanted to share that portion of the story—the true story, if you will, rather than my autobiographical tale."
Lopez claims that she "came up with the idea of telling the story of a hopeless romantic who kind of is going through her life's journey in her search for love, and what it means and what it's about" alongside director and co-writer Dave Meyers.
Her tenth studio album, This Is Me... Now, will be released on February 16 along with the release of This Is Me... Now: A Love Story on Prime Video. The Greatest Love Story Never Told, her upcoming documentary, will be released on February 27.
