The global phenomenon Squid Game is set to return, and the stakes have never been higher. If you’ve finished the intense second season of the South Korean thriller, you’re likely eager to learn when Squid Game Season 3 will arrive on Netflix.
Season 2 introduces Seong Gi-hun, the winner of Season 1, as he re-enters this deadly competition years from when he won the prize amount of 45.6 billion won. This time around, Gi-hun seeks to take down the evil operation once and for all with the aid of Detective Hwang Jun-ho. There is also the enigmatic Front Man who steps into a more frontline, orchestrating role in these gruesome challenges.
The explosive Season 2 finale full of rebellions, shock deaths, and plot twists that no one saw coming, has left fans speculating about the release of its final season. Series creator, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that this third season will indeed conclude the series.
"I'm thrilled to announce the date for Season 2 and share that Season 3 will be the series' final chapter," Hwang wrote in a letter to fans. "The intense conflict between [Gi-hun and the Front Man's] worlds will reach its climax in Season 3, set to debut next year."
Here's what we know so far about Squid Game Season 3, including its potential release date, returning cast members, and more.
When Will Squid Game Season 3 Be Released?
Squid Game will return for its third and final season in 2025, though Netflix has not announced an exact release date. However, Hwang Dong-hyuk let it slip that news of the release date may come soon since filming for the third season has already been completed.
At this point in time, it's a spoiler to say anything, so I'm being cautious," Hwang said in an interview with Variety. "But my guess is that after Season 2 launches, we'll be announcing the date for Season 3 fairly shortly thereafter. It should be in summer or fall of next year.
That would put its release squarely in the middle of the Emmy nomination period. According to Digital Trends, Netflix might intend to submit Season 2 for the 2025 awards and position Season 3 for a 2026 Emmy bid. Assuming that timeline is accurate, June 1, 2025 would be the earliest possible date for the premiere of Squid Game Season 3.

What Will Squid Game Season 3 Be About?
Season three will pick up where the violent rebellion in Season 2's finale left off. The outnumbered and out-of-ammunition rebels failed to take down the system. Arguably, the most gut-wrenching moment of the finale was the death of Gi-hun's closest friend from Season 1, Park Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan).
As he explained to Tudum, it wasn't a decision taken light-headedly. "The viewers will be really moved and saddened by Jung-bae's departure," Hwang says. "He was the one person Gi-hun could trust completely inside those games.
Meanwhile, the Front Man—actually Player 001 of Season 2, Young-il in disguise—puts himself back behind that signature black mask and cloak. Gi-hun is still clueless about this betrayal, blaming himself for the terrible events. "I don't think Gi-hun knows the truth yet," Lee Jung-jae told Tudum.
Well, the mid-credits scene at the end of Episode 7 confirmed that games do not stop right after Gi-hun's capture. It shows new players coming into an arena with two giant dolls and a new version of the super popular "Red Light, Green Light" game. It teasingly suggests that Gi-hun will face even greater conflicts with the Front Man in the final season.
