Ghanaian music star Black Sherif, widely known as Blacko, has entered another chapter of his musical journey with the release of his latest project, SUN SHERIF. The six-track EP was released on September 3, 2026, through Blacko Management / EMPIRE, and gives listeners a more intimate and hopeful side of the Konongo-born artiste. The project runs for approximately 15 minutes and features AratheJay and Trinidad and Tobago duo Full Blown.
Mohammed Ismail Sherif built his reputation through music that often combines personal experiences, ambition, pain, uncertainty and self-reflection. His rise became particularly significant in 2021 following the First Sermon and Second Sermon releases, before “Kwaku The Traveller” pushed him further into the African mainstream. The song reached No. 1 on Apple Music’s Ghana and Nigeria Top 100 charts and helped establish Black Sherif as one of Ghana’s most prominent young musical voices.
His journey continued with the 2022 debut album The Villain I Never Was, followed by the 2025 sophomore album IRON BOY. While those projects frequently explored struggle, pressure, betrayal, grief and the difficult sides of growing into fame, SUN SHERIF presents a noticeably lighter emotional direction. Apple Music describes the project as a point where Black Sherif appears to be embracing life more hopefully, moving away from some of the self-doubt and emotional weight that characterised his earlier work.
The project opens with “Expresso,” produced by Phillip Nyanor. The song sets the tone with Black Sherif reflecting on ambition, his journey and the continuous pursuit of greatness. As the opening statement of the EP, it combines confidence with the introspective quality that has become an important part of his music. Next comes “Run Around,” followed by “Forever” featuring AratheJay. “Forever” is one of the standout collaborations on the EP, bringing together two Ghanaian voices. AratheJay’s appearance is particularly notable because collaborations on Black Sherif’s own projects have generally been selective, keeping much of the attention on his personal storytelling. The song was produced by Westen.
The fourth track, “Jolie,” continues the project’s more emotional side, while “Frontline” brings back some of Black Sherif’s harder and more assertive energy. “Frontline” is produced by Joker Nharnah, who also handled production on several other songs on the EP. The project closes with “Love Again” featuring Full Blown, adding a Caribbean flavour through the Trinidad and Tobago duo.
What makes SUN SHERIF interesting is how compact it is. Rather than delivering a lengthy album, Black Sherif uses six songs to move through ambition, relationships, vulnerability, confidence and emotional growth. “Run Around,” “Jolie” and “Love Again” especially show a softer side of the artiste, while “Expresso” and “Frontline” preserve some of the intensity that longtime listeners associate with Blacko.
