From Gambaga to the Spotlight: How Sapashini Built His Name in Ghana’s Music Industry

Before Sapashini became one of the recognizable names associated with music from Ghana’s North East Region, his journey started from Gambaga, a town that would later become an important part of his identity as an artist.

Born Abdulai Abdul Basit, Sapashini discovered his musical talent and began recording songs professionally in 2013. What started as a passion gradually developed into a serious career, eventually taking him to stages far beyond his hometown. His official Spotify artist profile describes him as a Gambaga-born musician who has built a significant following in the North East Region.

Interestingly, music was not the only path Sapashini was pursuing. He is a graduate of the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Nalerigu, but his growing passion for music eventually pushed him to focus more seriously on his artistic career.

That decision would prove significant.

Sapashini’s early years in music helped him develop a sound that did not completely separate him from his roots. His music draws from contemporary African sounds while maintaining a strong connection to Northern Ghanaian culture and languages.

Rather than trying to sound like everybody else, he gradually built an identity around who he was and where he came from.

That identity became one of his strongest assets.

His name was also included among the nominees for the North East Region Artiste of the Year category and the overall Artiste of the Year category for the GNMA 2025 awards.

And Sapashini has not disappeared from the current music scene.

On April 24, 2026, he released “Nbaa Ngbai,” an Afro-Pop single produced by FLAMS. The release became his latest listed single on Apple Music and other major streaming platforms.

Looking at the journey from 2013 to 2026, Sapashini’s story is not simply about an artist releasing songs and performing at concerts. It is about an artist who has spent more than a decade building a recognizable identity while carrying his Northern Ghanaian roots with him.
